DJ Spinz Talks Success, New Music with T.I. and Gucci Mane

DJ Spinz tells BET.com he’s got fresh new bangers with T.I. and Gucci Mane on the way.

You'd have to be living under a rock if you haven't heard the work of Rafael "DJ Spinz" Hill. The Augusta, Georgia-bred DJ-producer is the beat maestro behind Ca$h Out’s inescapable smash single “Cashin’ Out” and 2 Chainz’s unruly club anthem “Riot.”

Reserved and soft spoken, it's hard to tell that the Atlanta-based trackmaster is responsible for providing the beats behind two of the more boisterous records in the country, yet there is definitely a quiet confidence in the 23-year-old hip hop wunderkind.

"Part of being a producer is knowing music and the DJ definitely knows music,” says Spinz during  a recent phone conversation with BET.com. “I’ve been doing it a long time and it’s a big part of what I do."

And the current buzz around his aforementioned works can attest to that. With "Cashin Out" making a steady climb on the Billboard R&B/Hip Hop charts (it is currently No. 3) Spinz has gone from being a local radio DJ to one of the most sought after producers in the game. While he’s already shown some early signs of versatility in his still maturing catalog, going from the dark, brooding “Riot” to the lively, upbeat “Cashin Out,” Spinz knew he’d make his biggest impact with the latter.

"I knew it was going to be a big record," Spinz recalls. "I felt that way because deejaying is my roots so I always pick out records whether I produced them or not and I felt like that was going to be crazy and it would make the clubs go."

That same gut instinct is what's helping the young sonic guru select the right tracks for his growing clientele. He has already crafted the sound for Rick Ross' mixtape banger "Ring Ring,” Waka Flocka Flame’s new single "Rooster In My Rari” and is working on material for T.I. and Gucci Mane. Cranking out bangers at a neck-whipping pace, Spinz says he's only scratched the surface on his production ability.

"I don't feel like this is Spinz's year," he's says matter-of-factly. "I feel blessed to breakthrough, but this is just the beginning man. I'm going to keep putting points on the board."
