Steelers Chase Claypool Shares Emotional Post About Late Teammate Dwayne Haskins
Pittsburgh Steelers receiver Chase Claypool was with teammate and NFL first-round pick, Dwayne Haskins during his final moments on Saturday (April 9).
Haskins, 24, unexpectedly passed after being struck by a dump truck on a Miami highway.
According to ESPN, Haskins was attempting to cross the westbound lanes of Interstate 595 in South Florida when oncoming traffic appeared.
Florida Highway Patrol spokesperson Lt. Indiana Miranda said it’s “an open traffic homicide investigation.”
Claypool tweeted about Haskins’ “selfless” intentions in the midst of what ended up being his last moments.
I spent your final moments with you and I can’t help but think about how selfless you were in those moments,” Claypool tweeted. “All you cared about was making sure that everyone around you was okay and I can’t thank you enough for that. You are what I strive to be. #LL3”
Less than ten minutes later, Claypool returned to Twitter with an emotional video. “A moment of vulnerability” he captioned the video, as he cried and understandably struggled to find words. We are placed on this undesirable pedestal and become treated as if we are anything but human, but It’s okay to not be okay. Allow me to be the example.”
In the video, Claypool has late Florida rapper XXXTentacion playing in his car – the song “Jocelyn Flores.”
Some social media followers criticized Claypool for posting the video.
One person stated that it was “weird” Claypool recorded the video because it appears he’s trying to make it about himself.
There were also those who supported Claypool’s transparency.
“When we allow men to be vulnerable, we allow them to be fully human without shame. He hurts. He showed that hurt. Why is that wrong?” a user said.
