Sherri Shepherd Recalls Getting Into VIP Lounge After Being Mistaken for Octavia Spencer by Airport Staff
Fans apparently still can’t tell the difference between actresses Sherri Shepherd and Octavia Spencer.
During a taping of her daytime television “The Sherri Shepherd Show,” last week, Shepherd told audience members about the time she got into a first-class lounge at the airport after staff confused her for the Academy Award winner.
“People are telling me how much they love me in Hidden Figures and The Help, [and] they think I am Octavia Spencer," she said in a clip shared with viewers. The 53-year-old added, “And I can't tell them I am Sherri Shepherd because they're gonna throw me out of the VIP lounge here at Delta because I used your name to get in.”
A wave of laughter flooded the studio as the host added, “And I do that all the time. I use Octavia’s name all the time." She also noted, “and apparently it goes both ways.”
Shepherd shared that Spencer was a good sport after she was confused for the “Precious” actress.
In a clip from Spencer, the actress talked with a restaurant worker who thought she was the former co-host of “The View.”
"You watch my show, ‘The Sherri Shepherd Show,’ every day?" Spencer asked. To which the fan replied, "Every day. It's how I start my morning, you know?" The star thanked the fan for watching her show before driving off.
Shepherd added, ”I [told] Octavia, 'I love it. If you get free food for a year, I want some, too,' " She thanked Spencer for sending in the clip, adding, “It made my day.”
In 2020, Spencer hilariously addressed the confusion on X, formerly known as Twitter, writing, “Dear Hollywood: Sherri Shepherd And Octavia Spencer Are Not The Same Person but we are dear friends, LOL.”
