Mariah Carey will be on an international trek for the 20th anniversary of her iconic tenth studio album.
To end the weekend on a high note, on Sunday, March 23, the 5-time Grammy winner announced that she’ll be touring Asia to celebrate twenty years of her 2005 album, “The Emancipation of Mimi.” The outing will begin in May for two dates in Shanghai, China, before the Songbird Supreme returns to Asia from October to early November for five more dates in Thailand, the Philippines, and Japan.
“We’re taking The Celebration of Mimi worldwide! I can’t wait to see you all during this special anniversary year of the Mimi album more dates to be announced soon!,” Carey wrote on Instagram.
For select dates from April 2024 to February this year, the Songbird Supreme held her fifth Las Vegas residency, The Celebration of Mimi, at Dolby Live. The residency was originally scheduled for eight dates last April before being extended for sixteen additional dates from July 2024 until February 15.
Released on April 12, 2005, “The Emancipation of Mimi” is primarily considered Carey’s comeback album and featured Snoop Dogg, Jermaine Dupri, Twista, and Nelly. In 2006, the album won Grammys for Best Contemporary R&B Album, while the track “We Belong Together” won Best R&B Song and Best Female R&B Vocal Performance.
