Rashad Jennings Pens Apology for Throwing Eli Manning Under the Bus
Throwing your two-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback and coach under the bus is never a wise thing to do...especially in New York City.
That's exactly why New York Giants running back Rashad Jennings wrote an apology to his QB Eli Manning and coach Tom Coughlin as a guest columnist for the New York Post. The veteran rusher apologized for publicly admitting that he was ordered by the QB not to score a touchdown during the first and second downs late in a loss against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night.
"I hope that those who have come to know me over the years will readily see that this is something that is uncharacteristic of me," Jennings wrote in the column. "I take full ownership of the fact that I didn't handle things as I should have. And for that, again, I truly apologize to my quarterback, to my coach, to my team, and to our fans."
This comes after Jennings told the press Monday that Manning ordered him not to score a touchdown on first- and second-down run plays to take time off the clock. On third down, Manning wound up throwing an incomplete pass, instead of taking the sack, and that froze the clock instead of letting seconds tick off. The Cowboys wound up orchestrating a game-winning drive to clinch a 27-26 victory.
"I make no claims to be a perfect communicator," Jennings continued in the column. "I admit in retrospect that I should not have shared that information with the world. I chose to do so, and for that choice, I am truly sorry.
"I want to apologize from my heart for the negative light that I unintentionally cast my quarterback and friend Eli Manning in," he added. "I continue to have the utmost respect for him, and I have complete trust in his leadership. I admit in retrospect that I should not have shared that information with the world. I chose to do so, and for that choice, I am truly sorry."
