Jurnee Smollett Wishes Late Costar Michael K. Williams A Happy Birthday
Actress Jurnee Smollett honored her late Lovecraft Country co-star, Michael K. Williams, on what would have been his 55th birthday, Nov.22.
Heading to her Instagram, the 35-year-old shared a photo gallery of photos from her time with Williams on the Primetime Emmy-nominated set.
“Happy birthday, my brother,” Smollett captioned the post. “I miss you so.”
In a separate post, she continued her sentiments about The Wire star.
She said in part, “Today, feeling a lot. Mostly missing this beautiful man, the beautiful life, the beautiful art we created. Some things I’ll just never understand. While I’ll always miss the ‘us’ we were, and my heart is hurting, I’m thankful for the time I had you as mine. Love you for life.”
On Sept. 6, 2021, Michael K. Williams was found dead in his Brooklyn penthouse apartment. He was 54.
The New York City Office of the Chief Medical Examiner later announced that the multi-talented performer died by an accidental overdose, confirming it was an “acute intoxication” by the combined effects of fentanyl, p-fluorofentanyl, heroin and cocaine.
He was laid to rest in Harrisburg, Pa., on Sept. 14.
The Brooklyn, NY, native was famous for his roles as Omar Little in the HBO dramatic series The Wire, Chalky White in Boardwalk Empire, and Montrose Freeman in Lovecraft Country, which earned him his fifth Emmy nomination.
