Childish Gambino: I'm Done With My Label
Childish Gambino wants another label to buy him out of his deal with Glassnote Records. The Atlanta native is so fed up, he publicly blasted the company, on Monday (April 14), over its handling of his "Sweatpants" video and website, the Deep Web Tour.
According to his Twitterfeed, the label didn't carry out Gambino's vision. "Im trying to create one of the more imaginative rollouts, and other people's lust for money and impatience is ruining it. So this sweatpants video and blog was important to us and it wasn't handled correctly," he wrote.
"We were told a lot of things were gonna happen and they were all lies," continues Gambino. "so im done. someone buy me out of this contract."
He also calls the label dishonest in comparisons to his personal team, and name drops Def Jam and Atlantic as two of the majors that might be interested in scooping him up.
Gambino signed with Glassnote in 2011. His freshman and sophomore albums, Camp and Because the Internet, were both released under the indie imprint.
Glassnote, which is distributed through Universal Music Group, has yet to respond to Gambino's gripes.
