We’re eagerly awaiting to see the much hyped Kanye West women's collection and the details keep coming.
If the collection lives up to the hype, it seems like we’re in for an extravagant production that’s a cut above the lines most celebs just slap their names on, but according to Grazia Daily sources, who have worked alongside ‘Ye on the project, we might not want to hold our breath that the rapper will show during Paris Fashion Week. Kanye is currently scheduled to show on October 8, according to previous reports, but apparently he’s been going back and forth on some of the final touches.
"Kanye was in fairly often for all the fittings. [He] was very nice and polite and talked knowledgably about shape etc.,” the source said (good to know he’s not just slapping his name on it!). “But [he] was prone to changing his mind a lot, in fact the whole process was slightly excruciating as there were SO many opinions that it took forever to get anything done.” The source went on to say she would be “amazed” if the collection is ready in time for Paris Fashion Week at all “and that's quite likely the reason it wasn't shown last week at New York Fashion Week after all.”
As for the aesthetics of the clothes, the sources say the collection is currently filled with lots of ivory and gold (although they note Kanye’s been changing his mind on this, too) and is "seemingly based on Samurai, with lots of sporty garments, but in luxury fabrics, with embellishment, embroidery — Japanese stuff — gold chainmail." The pieces are said to be centered around sportswear — with a baseball jacket and biker shapes, hoods and sports-luxe — listed as themes, but if you were hoping to get your hands on them, better start saving up. Apparently the range is pricey (are we surprised!?). "[It] will be extraordinarily expensive," the sources continued. "Some of it is virtually unproduceable."
Kanye allegedly had many inspirations for the clothing including other designers and fashion figures. Christine Centenera of Harper's Bazaar Australia is believed to be a muse and those working on the line note “He spent a fortune on designer clothes and retro stuff that he brought into the studio — Balenciaga, [Azzedine] Alaia, etc.”
Here’s hoping we get to see what Kanye has up his sleeve sooner rather than later.
