Why Young M.A’s Health Business Is Her Own
After a viral video sparked worry about Young M.A’s recent hospitalization, the Brooklyn rapper addressed her condition via Instagram in a message on Wednesday (March 15).
“As many of my supporters know I’ve been dealing with various personal health issues the last few years,” she wrote in white text over a black background. “I recently was hospitalized and was successfully treated for several conditions. I’m doing better now, will take some time but I’m on the road to recovery and look forward to the future.
“I’m in good spirits and everything will be explained in the MUSIC! Plus documentary,” she added. “Love y’all MAB! Don’t worry I’m good! Bless up.”

The original clip that caused concern was one posted by M.A’s barber showing her sitting in a chair at the shop with some noticing her demeanor and yellowed eyes. The video posting was then defended by Aaron “Fats Da Barber” Turk who noted that “if [the rapper] didn’t want [him] to record she would have told [him]” and to “send your prayers for her.”
“She didn’t have a haircut in a month and she wanted me to bring her haircut back to life which I did!!! thank you sis for coming and rocking with me like always love ya,” he added.
And while Young M.A is being open with her fans about the current health journey she’s on, that’s a choice she’s made, not something owed. Well-wishes are fine and concern can be as well, depending, but when public speculation over and jokes about her condition and/or appearance builds across social media, that’s when the line is crossed.
Remember, similar comments about appearance followed Chadwick Boseman around for months prior to his sudden passing. Hurtful jokes and memes flooded the internet after the Black Panther star posted a video to his Instagram account where he spoke about Operation 42, an initiative that helps hospitals serving Black communities during the COVID-19 pandemic, and looked way thinner than most remembered him.

Four years prior to Boseman’s death, he was diagnosed with colon cancer – a condition he never discussed publicly and few even knew about privately. It made anyone with a severe lapse in judgment and with any bit of heart feel horrible in hindsight.
So with that in mind, take the comedy and speculation elsewhere for Young M.A. It’s certain though that she’d appreciate your prayers and well-wishes.
Get well soon, Me Always.
