Kanye West and Drake’s Benefit Concert to be Livestream Across Amazon Platforms and Select IMAX Theaters

The “Jail” emcee hopes the event will bring awareness to prison reform.

Fans will now get the chance to see Ye (formerly known as Kanye West) and Drake appear on the same stage this week for a benefit concert for Chicago gangster Larry Hoover, which will stream on several different Amazon platforms for a momentous occasion.

After squashing their longtime feud last month thanks in part to Rap-A-Lot Records founder and philanthropist J Prince, the pair announced a “Free Larry Hoover Benefit Concert” at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The event will also be available and on-demand following the live stream across platforms including Amazon Music, Prime Video, and the Amazon Music Twitch channel.

“Kanye and Drake have spent their careers pushing boundaries and defining culture, and we’re excited to give fans around the world a front-row seat to this concert,” Tim Hinshaw, head of hip hop and R&B at Amazon Music said in a news statement to Rolling Stone. “We have made Amazon Music and Prime Video destinations where artists can make their most ambitious ideas a reality—this concert is just the latest example.”

Kanye, who recently changed his name to Ye, hopes the concert will bring awareness to Hoover’s case and prison reform. The former Chicago street gang leader and founder of the Gangster Disciples is currently serving six life sentences in Colorado’s ADX Florence supermax federal prison.

“I believe this event will not only bring awareness to our cause but prove to people everywhere how much more we can accomplish when we lay our price aside and come together,” the Grammy Award-winner said in a news release at the time.

The “Jail” rapper has also received support from community advocates including Ex-Cons for Community and Social Change, Hustle 2.0, and Uptown People’s Law Center.

This will be the first time Ye has headlined a show in five years. This will also be the first time Drake has performed since the Astroworld tragedy last November. The Certified Lover Boy musician joined the concert as a featured artist following a request from Ye and J Prince.

The musical event is scheduled to take place on Thursday, Dec. 9 at 11 p.m. ET.

The concert will also be shown in select IMAX theaters around the country.
