Wayans Family Members Recall Their Favorite Wayans Films
With the 2011 Academy Awards now over, in its place are the award shows and organizations that fully honor the contributions and achievements of African-Americans in Hollywood. The NAACP Image Awards will be held Friday, March 4, but prior to that, the Media Partner Centric Network’s 2011 Eye on Black Directors saluted Keenan Ivory Wayans, Robert Townsend, Tim Story and Melvin Van Peebles.
Damon Wayans, who says his recent hiatus from showbiz is because he's “enjoying life and other priorities: children and grandchildren,” was in attendance and shared his favorite Wayans movie of all time: “I’m Gonna Git You Sucka is my favorite, maybe because I’m in it,” he said, laughing. “I remember how focused Keenan was and how attentive he was to detail. He made things funny that weren’t necessarily funny. I think I’m in love with that movie because it was the first—of seeing him work and another side of him.”
But big brother Keenan had a completely different opinion on which family film was best. “I love all of them, but of all the stuff I’ve done my favorite would have to be White Chicks,” Keenan said. “It was a family affair (Keenan directed, Shawn and Marlon co-wrote and starred). The makeup made things challenging for us, as well as trying to pull off the whole concept. Everybody was so much fun.”
And meeting girlfriend and The Game star Brittany Daniel on the set? “Of course, that was the extra added bonus,” he said with a smile.
