Eminem Introduces Barack Obama at Kamala Harris' Detroit Campaign Rally

After being called onto the stage, the former president surprised the crowd by rapping to Eminem’s hit ‘Lose Yourself.’

In a surprise appearance on Tuesday (Oct. 22) night, Eminem took the stage at a Detroit rally supporting Vice President Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign to introduce Barack Obama

The rap legend encouraged the crowd to vote, underscoring Michigan's importance as a key swing state in the upcoming election. “I’m here tonight for a couple of important reasons,” he began “As most of you know, the City of Detroit and the whole State of Michigan mean a lot to me. Going into this election, the spotlight is on us more than ever, and it’s important for you to use your voice, so I’m encouraging everyone to get out and vote.

Eminem continued, “I also think that people shouldn’t be afraid to express their opinions, and I don’t think anyone wants an America where people are worried about retribution or what people will do if you make your opinion known. I think that VP Harris supports a future for this country where these freedoms and many others will be protected and upheld. And, here to tell you much more about that, I’m proud to introduce President Barack Obama.“

The former president surprised the crowd by rapping along to the 52-year-old’s 2002 hit "Lose Yourself," joking that he expected Eminem to be the one performing while he played the guest role. “I gotta say, I have done a lot of rallies, so I don’t usually get nervous, but I was feeling some kind of way following Eminem,” Obama said before going into the track. “I notice my palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy, vomit on my sweater already, mom’s spaghetti, I’m nervous but on the surface, I look calm and ready to drop bombs, but I keep on forgetting.”

Just this past Saturday (Oct. 19), Harris continued to draw star-studded support for her campaign with appearances by Usher in Atlanta and Lizzo in Detroit. Usher fired up the crowd alongside Harris at a rally in Georgia, while Lizzo took the stage to rally voters in Michigan. Both events were a part of Harris' broader push to energize key swing states as the election draws closer, aiming to galvanize voter turnout and emphasize the importance of participation in crucial battlegrounds.
