50 Cent Has Thoughts On Harvey Weinstein’s 23-Year Prison Sentencing
It’s official — film producer and now convicted sex offender Harvey Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison for two felony sex charges. The disgraced movie producer’s highly-publicized trial came to its conclusion in a New York court on Wednesday (Mar. 10) where Weinstein learned of his fate.
In the judge’s final verdict, he was sentenced to 20 years for a criminal sex act in the first degree and three years for the third degree, according to Los Angeles Times. The decision came after Weinstein was convicted on two of the three charges that had been brought against him. Last month, he was found guilty for the assault of production assistant Mimi Haley at his apartment in 2006, a sexual act that Weinstein has maintained was consensual, and rape in the third degree of Jessica Mann, a former aspiring actress, in 2013.
Provided that Weinstein completes his 23-year prison term, he will be placed under 10 years of supervised release. Given the once-revered producer’s age and health, many amount the lengthy term to a life sentence.
Furthermore, Weinstein’s sentencing is being heralded as a landmark case for the #MeToo movement. Sexual misconduct allegations have long shadowed Weinstein’s Hollywood career for years until they were brought to light after dozens of women in the entertainment industry came forward against him.
50 Cent reacted to Weinstein’s sentencing on Instagram. The G-Unit honcho threw in a reference to NBA great Michael Jordan’s iconic No. 23 jersey.
“D**n, they gave Harvey the Air Jordan. I’m cool on these b**ches,” he captioned a screenshot of a news report.
