Oprah Winfrey brought the stars out to honor a fellow icon — and her friend — during an “An Evening With Ralph Lauren” in New York last night (October 24). The entire evening was a dizzying display of glamour starting with the arrival of celebs like Kerry Washington and Chanel Iman, who all but transformed the blue carpet at Lincoln Center into a runway.
During the evening, the daytime TV queen chatted up the iconic designer as he talked growing up poor, creating a fashion empire with no formal design training and what inspires him to continue creating the All-American looks he’s known for season after season. The evening included a presentation of Lauren’s Spring 2012 collection, but some of the best models came by way of celebs who pulled out their best Ralph Lauren to honor the designer.
Kerry Washington oozed elegance in a futuristic backless Ralph Lauren Fall 2011 gown with a metallic ringed neckline. A vintage Movado watch and silver Raven Kauffman Couture "Charlie" clutch highlighted the dress’s shimmering detailing and her slick chignon and warm plum lip cemented the sultriness of the look.
Meanwhile, Victoria’s Secret model Chanel Iman went a different direction with her look in a breezy floral frock from the designer. Her fresh-faced makeup and loose locks added a fun and youthful touch to the red carpet without sacrificing the glamour that the night called for.
The lavish affair ended with a seated dinner (designers Diane von Furstenberg, Prabal Gurung and Tory Burch, plus actresses Jessica Alba, Naomi Watts and Uma Thurman were other notables in attendance) and the whole evening raised $7 million, which will directly benefit The Ralph Lauren Center for Cancer Care and Prevention and the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.
