Lil Flip Pleads Not Guilty to Drug and Gun Charges
Houston rapper Lil Flip pleaded not guilty to possession of an assault rifle and marijuana yesterday (February 20), claiming he had no weed and was licensed to carry the weapon.
The "Game Over" MC was pulled over for speeding in Louisiana last Christmas when police allegedly found an AR-15 rifle in his car. Flip was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm, possession of a schedule-one narcotic (weed) and speeding.
The rapper, born Wesley Eric Weston, immediately attempted to prove his innocence by releasing his concealed handgun license to online publications. The Texas license is valid in 22 other states including Louisiana. He also claims that the marijuana cops claim to have found was only Black & Mild cigars and Clove cigarettes.
"(I’m) not one of those rappers who would carry drugs on me," said Flip after the arrest, "I know better." Flip announced his intention to fight the charges, adding, "I know they don't mess around in Louisiana and I wouldn't do anything to make me go to the big house… Especially on Christmas night."
A pre-trial date has been set for April for the rapper, whose last album, 2010’s Ahead of My Time, was released independently to underwhelming sales.
