Casting News: Lupita Nyong'o Joins Jungle Book Reboot

Plus, James Earl Jones to return to Broadway.

Lupita Nyong'o is heading back to the big screen after her Oscar-winning turn in 12 Years a Slave. The People magazine Most Beautiful Woman in the World has landed a role opposite Scarlett Johannsen and Idris Elba in The Jungle Book. This is the first part Nyong'o has booked since winning the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress earlier this year.
The reboot of Rudyard Kipling's classic tale will be directed by Iron Man helmer Jon Favreau, who will reimagine the tale as a live action/CGI hybrid. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Nyong'o will play Rakcha, a mother wolf who adopts a young human boy named Mowgli. Johansson, meanwhile, will provide the voice of Kaa, a python who hypnotizes and eats other animals. Kaa is the second villain of the film, following the ferocious tiger Shere Khan, voiced by Elba.
In Broadway news, Hollywood veteran James Earl Jones is eyeing his return to the stage for You Can't Take It With You. The production, a revival of the 1936 classic, is set to open on September 28.
Jones will star as Martin Vanderhof, the philosophizing patriarch of an eccentric New York City household, which erupts into mayhem when one of his granddaughters invites the parents of her rich
fiancé to dinner and the two families collide. Producers have confirmed that the revival will have a multiracial cast.
The actor is a two-time Tony Award winner for lead actor in a play, in 1969 for The Great White Hope, and in 1987 for Fences
