Chuck D Shares Letter From Tupac

Pac reached out to Public Enemy front man from prison, one year before his death.

Chuck D shared a piece of hip hop history on Twitter over the weekend, unveiling an old letter he received from Tupac back when the budding music great was locked up for sexual assault. He tweeted the handwritten message Saturday (June 22) night along with the words, "Letter from Pac but you should've seen mine."

The letter is dated September 25, 1995, a year and two weeks before his untimely death. "First of all, I'm sure u know how highly respected & loved u r by me so your letter definitely warmed my heart," he writes. "I was also touched by your offer and show of support. it will not go unnoticed. Thankx! It was good 2 hear how well u are doing but hey it's only right. Back in the days on tour with u I learned so much from what u did and how u did it. It may be hard 2 c but u have always played a major role in what it is I do 2day."

Much of the letter expresses the same humble excitement that Pac showed during a recently released phone call with Sanyika "Monster Kody" Shakur that same year. Similar to his talk with Monster Kody, Pac wanted to bring Chuck in on new projects. "I have a program I want 2 put together and I would like u 2 be apart of it. I'll explain it 2 u in detail on another occassion," the letter reads. "I also have a part 4 u in this movie if u r willing and to push my luck even more i would be honored if u would appear on this track 4 my next album, Euthanasia, the track is called 'Da Struggle Continuez' it will feature Sista Souljah if God wills. So let me know."

Towards the end, Pac, who was freed a month later, says that he expects to be released from jail by the time Chuck received the letter. He promises to keep in touch through his assistant, until he gets "settled."

A newly signed Death Row artist at the time, Pac had lots of dreams for the future. Unbeknownst to him, he would only live to see another year. "I just signed 2 Deathrow so I should be working on this album soon," writes Pac. "Thanx Again Chuck! I believe we can make a difference, and I have every intention of doing just that. Stay strong!"

The Euthanasia album he mentioned likely became All Eyez on Me, the 1996 Death Row Records debut that went on to sell more than five million copies.

Had he survived the drive-by shooting that cut his life short, Pac would've celebrated his 43rd birthday last Monday (June 16). Click here for a look at his most inspirational songs.
