An Indiana mother has been arrested and charged with domestic battery for beating her two children after they opened their Christmas presents early, police said.

36-year-old Sascha Collins of Greenfield, Indiana, reportedly hit her 7- and 9-year-old sons (one of which has a mental disability) with a belt buckle, bit one of them and threw both of them against a wall.

"The children had bruises and marks all over them," Greenfield acting police Chief Derek Towle told Click 2 Houston.

The boys' sister came home from being out with friends and found them hysterically crying, reported WLIX. She then took them out of the home and called authorities.

"When we see these types of things happen, it breaks our hearts knowing that this is going on. We try to see that it was just a kid’s excitement and that's what we want for them to have — excitement around Christmastime," Towle said.

Collins was arrested and charged with felony battery, including battery of a handicapped child with injury.

Collins called her children "disrespectful" and "out of control" during an interview with police. Although she admitted to spanking her children, she told police she doesn't remember everything.

The sister told police that her mother had an alcohol problem, and she allegedly witnessed her mother crush up and snort hydrocodone.
