This Hip-Hop Heavyweight Is Now Defending Russell Simmons In Wake Of Sexual Assault Allegations
Russell Simmons has been accused of some pretty serious offenses, but apparently, at least one hip-hop star is coming to his defense.
Foxy Brown, who signed to the rap mogul’s Def Jam Records back in 1996, is defending Simmons and took to Instagram to explain why.
“Attesting to the character of the man who, as a teenager saved my life. Salaciousness and scandal garners headlines. Cowards cower,” she wrote in the caption of a pic of the two sitting together at a fashion show. “But as inarguably, Russell’s biggest Def Jam female protege, (who birthed an era of overtly evocative stars), the man I’ve known and loved, was nothing more than the respectful, respected, gentleman and GODFATHER OF HIP-HOP we’ve all adored. In staunch support, Praying for you Russ!”
More than a dozen women have accused Russell Simmons of sexual harassment and/or assault. Fashion publicist Kelly Cutrone and actress Amanda Seales are just a few of the women.
Simmons has denied the allegations, however the controversy has had him stepping away from his companies. Earlier this week, he posted an Instagram meme reading, “Temporarily closed for spiritual maintenance.”
