Final Word: What the OJ Knife Can Tell Us About the Case
Many hoped that the knife that was recovered on O.J. Simpson's former estate would reveal the truth about the murders of his ex wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman. Unfortunately for those looking for a crazy third act plot twist to the most infamous cold case in modern history, you'll have to keep guessing.
TMZ reports that an inside source familiar with the DNA testing of the folding knife, which was found buried on Simpson's property years ago but kept as a souvenir by a former cop, has produced no matches. Hopes were slim that the long-buried knife would produce irrefutable evidence linking O.J. to the murders, and the absence of either Nicole's or Ron's DNA means the so-called "murder weapon" is of no help in solving the case.
The source said that microbes in the soil degraded any DNA that may have been on the knife, including O.J.'s own, past the point where an extraction would be possible, and the investigation on the knife has ended. The LAPD will reportedly make an official announcement with the findings in the coming days.
Simpson, who has been aware of the entire situation, will surely be happy to hear of this latest revelation. While sources from inside the prison, as well as his former manager Norman Pardo, stated that he was never concerned that the knife would actual incriminate him, he was "a little worried because if it’s one of his pocket knifes, and if it’s got his blood on it, that could make him look bad when he’s up for parole.”
It should be noted that at 7:21 AM PST, the LAPD released a statement that the lead investigator has not received information from the crime lab regarding the conclusion of testing, but the previously mentioned inside source remains confident of the results.
