PETA Names Janet Jackson "The Grinch of the Year"
The People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has been criticizing Janet Jackson all year for being a spokesperson for luxury fur band Blackglama, and they couldn’t end the year without a bang. The organization has named the singer their Grinch of the Year for 2011.
In a press release, PETA explained, "When Janet Jackson had her infamous 'wardrobe malfunction' during the Super Bowl, at least the flesh that popped into view was her own—unlike the stolen animal skins that she drapes herself with, which are as dead as her taste in fashion (not to mention her career)." It added, "Ms. Jackson, you're just plain nasty."
Janet has been the face of Blackglama’s "What Becomes a Legend Most?" for two years and launched a fur line with the company in late November. In addition to the hitmaker's unflattering title, the group also included filmmaker Cameron Crowe and Kim Kardashian on their list of “animal-unfriendly celebrities of the year.”
In a less controversial move, Janet has recently been named the face of Nutrisystem weight loss company.
