A Black mother in Connecticut is demanding justice after she and her toddler were attacked by a group of white people who hurled racial slurs and smashed her car.

37-year-old Thaniyyah Hutchinson, of Norwich, said she was driving home on Sunday night when she saw a gang of five white people attacking a Black man on the street, reported FOX 61.

"They kept hitting him and he kept falling, but he kept getting up," Hutchinson told Fox 61.

As Hutchinson called 911, the Black man got up and ran away. This is when the group turned on Hutchinson and jumped on the hood of her car.

"They called me n****r, they called me B-I-T-C-H, told me to get the eff out of here, they called my son names, they called him half racial, they called him a mutt," Hutchinson told Fox 61.

Officers who arrived on the scene witnessed some of the attack.

"Especially when the officers were over there, they had witnessed some of the derogatory remarks and bigotry statements," Lt. John Perry of the Norwich Police Department told Fox 61.

According to Norwich police, an unidentified 15-year-old smashed Hutchinson's back passenger side window, causing glass to shatter all over her toddler. Luckily, he was not injured.

"You all destroyed me. I feel hurt, I’m scared, I don’t know who to trust, this is at my own corner store where I look over my shoulder and I can’t take my baby to the corner store," Hutchinson told Fox 61.

While police said five people were charged for the incident, they also revealed the suspects were only issued a court summons. None were taken to jail and no mugshots were taken.

They said the 15-year-old is facing intimidation through bigotry and racial bias, assault of an officer, risk of injury to a minor, interfering with an officer and third-degree criminal mischief.

Brenda Mejia, 57, of Norwich has been charged with interfering with an officer. Lindsey Wysoczynski, 25, of Norwich, Julie Wysoczynski, 35, of Norwich and Derek Dixon, 26, of Norwich, have each been charged with intimidation through bigotry and racial bias.

Police said the four adults will be arraigned in court on July 12th at 10 a.m. at Norwich Superior Court.
