Young Engaged Couple Expecting Their First Child Killed In Horrific Head On Collision
A newly engaged couple have died in a head-on crash while on an west coast interstate in Florida.
The couple, who were expecting their first child, crashed on Interstate 75 near Tampa late Thursday night (November 23). One other person was also killed in the incident.
According to local news outlets, 24-year-old Lashay D. Waiters and 21-year-old Yvette R. Alexandre were struck by a vehicle driven by 21-year-old Justin Lakin.
The Florida Highway Patrol concluded that Lakin was the cause of the wreck as he was driving north in the southbound center lane of I-75.
Waiters and Alexandre were heading home from dropping of a friend Thanksgiving dinner. The couple was planning to get married in January 2019 and were engaged in October.
Authorities aren’t certain when Lakin began driving the wrong way on the interstate. The investigation is still ongoing, however they do not feel alcohol played a role. Toxicology tests are reportedly still being conducted.
