National Enquirer to Produce Whitney Houston Documentary

Film will focus on the star's tumultuous private life.

The National Enquirer, the gossip magazine that over the years has started many rumors about Whitney Houston, will be producing a documentary on the late pop idol, IndieWire.com reports. The new project will focus mostly on stories about Houston’s drug-taking, marriage and family life.
The tabloid announced a tie-up last month with UK-based indie production company Zig Zag to create filmed content, and the companies are already working on a reality series following the Enquirer’s journalists.
"Whitney’s death sees the end of one of the greatest talents of our time ... We want to tell her true story and our partnership with The National Enquirer will enable us to do just that," said Leila Monks, a Zig Zag Productions executive.
With the Enquirer — a publication which, among other things, has wrongfully diagnosed Houston with emphysema and spread rumors about her rehab stints — behind it, the film is sure to be inflammatory and its credibility called into question. Not that those things have ever negatively impacted the box office.
