Nebraska’s Interim Coach Mickey Joseph Arrested On Suspicion Of Strangulation And Domestic Assault

Nebraska athletic director Trev Alberts released a statement.

Nebraska football’s interim coach, Mickey Joseph, was arrested Wednesday and booked on charges of strangulation and third-degree domestic assault, officials said.

According to ESPN, officers were called at 1:54 p.m. to a residence in Lincoln, Nebraska, on a domestic disturbance call. Officers arrested Joseph, 54, at a separate location. He was booked at 4:03 p.m. into Lancaster County Jail. No other details have been released on what led to Joseph’s arrest, and the victim's name has not been made public.

“While the Lincoln Police Department does not normally provide a news release for a domestic-related arrest, due to the high-profile nature of the person involved and, in an effort, to provide transparency on an arrest involving a public figure, notification of the arrest is being made,” the Lincoln Police Department said in a statement.

Joseph, who was a quarterback for the Nebraska Cornhuskers from 1988 to 1991, was named Nebraska’s interim head coach in September 2022 after Scott Frost was fired for undisclosed reasons. He served in the interim position for nine games. On Saturday, Nov. 26, former Carolina Panthers coach Matt Rhule was hired as the new head coach. Joseph was expected to continue his roles as wide receivers coach, passing game coordinator, and associate head coach, but he is now placed on administrative leave.

Nebraska athletic director Trev Alberts released the following statement via KSBN: "I was made aware of the charges against Coach Joseph and given the nature of the allegations and based on University policy he has been placed on administrative leave. We will have no additional comment at this time."
