Ray McDonald's Defamation Lawsuit Dismissed

This marks a win for the woman who accused the ex-NFLer of rape.

Nice try, Ray McDonald, but it didn't work.

The embattled ex-NFL defensive lineman had his defamation lawsuit against his female accuser thrown out in court, according to TMZ Sports.

McDonald sued the woman in March, claiming that she lied to police that she had been raped by him in his home last December in a plot to ruin his NFL career. The accuser claimed she hit her head in a fall at McDonald's pool and didn't remember having sex with him. The former NFL star denied any wrongdoing.

But a judge saw it another way, dismissing the lawsuit and ordering McDonald to pay the woman's lawyer fees during the defamation case.

"NFL players and other celebrities should now understand that suing persons for defamation who allege to law enforcement that they are victims of crime by NFL players or others will be a losing strategy," Gloria Allred, the accuser's attorney, told TMZ Sports.

It isn't clear if the accuser named in the dismissed lawsuit is McDonald's ex-fiancée. Last week, details emerged about how McDonald allegedly attacked the 27-year-old woman on several occasions after they were engaged in February 2014.

After he was arrested for domestic violence last year, McDonald was released by the San Francisco 49ers. He got a second chance, as the Chicago Bears gambled on him. But last month, McDonald was arrested for domestic violence for the second time. The Bears immediately cut McDonald and, to make matters worse, he was arrested for the second time in less than 72 hours for violating terms of the restraining order his ex-fiancée had against him.

McDonald's return to the NFL looks doubtful at this point.
