Cameron Hogg Arrested After Allegedly Killing Friend Asia Womack Over Basketball Game
On Thursday (October 20), Dallas police announced they arrested a man accused of killing his friend after she beat him in a basketball game.
According to CBS News, 31-year-old Cameron Hogg was taken into custody on an arrest warrant for murder. He’s accused of shooting and killing his friend, 21-year-old Asia Womack, on October 3 and has been charged with murder.
The shooting reportedly took place in South Dallas after a pickup basketball game at T.G. Terry Park just up the street from Womack’s home.
Womack's mother, Andrea, described to KDFW how her daughter was a gifted basketball player and played the sport during her high school days.
"Asia loved basketball. She loved it to a point where she died doing what she loved, and shouldn't have died that way,” she said. “She's eaten with this man, fed him and he turned on her and killed her in a vicious way."
"This is so senseless," said family friend Pastor John Delley. "You become embarrassed basically because a female beat you in basketball."
According to the family, the shooter took his kids and brother home and came back to the park, shooting Asia five times. Detectives have since recovered video possibly capturing the car speeding away.
A vigil for Womack was held in the park where she died a few days after her death.
