Watch Carmelo Anthony Hoop With Kids in the Notorious Rio Favelas
Is there an NBA baller more realer than Carmelo Anthony right now?
Who else would post up in the middle of Rio de Janeiro's notorious favelas looking right at home?
That's exactly what the New York Knicks All-Star forward did in between Olympic games with Team USA earlier this week.
So, what made Melo visit the infamous slums of Brazil?
“This was on my bucket list, to be honest with you ... specifically to go to the favelas — forever,” Anthony told USA Today. “I just always wanted to see and experience that. Growing up in Baltimore, and knowing what that was like, in my own favela, you know what I mean? So I wanted to go and experience that for myself. I wanted to touch that.”
And what were they like to him?
“I watched City of God almost 100 times, and it’s very, very accurate,” Melo said of the favelas. “It was one of them.”
And before you could even think to say he's just doing it for the 'gram, Melo took it a step further, hooping it up with some kids from the favelas, too.
Yes, Melo and USA Basketball are living large on a luxury cruise ship docked in the Port of Rio instead of staying in the Olympic village during these Rio Games. Still, Melo didn't have to spend his day off doing this.
It says a lot about him.
