Jill Scott Gets Personal on Her New Single, 'Fools Gold'
Jill Scott is about to have an eventful year. 2015 will mark the 15th anniversary of her debut Who Is Jill Scott? Words and Sounds Vol. 1. This year also means fans will be getting another album from Scott — a proper follow-up to 2011’s The Light of the Sun.
"[The album is] closer than it's ever been. But I don't think my gut is finished,” she told Billboard last February. “I haven't emptied everything out. This is my baby, you know, and it takes me some time to relinquish the reins. I might come up with another song or two. I don't know."
Well, we’re glad she dropped some new music today. “Fools Gold” is the first single off her untitled Atlantic Records debut, and it’s her strongest yet. She sings about falling in love, but sometimes following your heart can lead to foolish decisions. It’s one of many songs she describes as an “eclectic” experience from a grown woman’s perspective.
“I was living a dream believing things that just ain’t true / Oh, I can’t believe I ever believed in you / You had me chasin’ fools gold,” she sings.
