Darren Sharper Pleads Guilty to Drugging Women in Rape Attempts

Retired NFL player admits using Xanax, Ambien, and Valium for New Orleans sexual assaults.

Darren Sharper drugged and attempted to rape three women in New Orleans, the former NFL-player-turned-commentator, admitted Friday.

According to The Advocate, Sharper pleaded guilty to federal counts of conspiracy to distribute drugs with the intent to commit rape. He signed a “factual basis” in court, in addition to a verbal acknowledgment.

“Mr. Sharper, are you pleading guilty because you are, in fact, guilty?” the judge asked.

“Yes, ma’am,” responded the 39-year-old onetime Super Bowl champion.

Today’s admission is Sharper’s latest in multiple plea deals, stemming from charges that he raped and drugged at least nine women across four states, between 2013 and 2014. Sharper is likely to serve nine years behind bars for crimes, that could led to life in prison.

The retired NFL star is expected to be sentenced Aug. 20, when he will also plead guilty to a count of simple rape, and two counts of forcible rape, stemming from two sexual assault incidents in 2013.
