Chris Brown's Assault Trial Postponed
Chris Brown's assault trial has been postponed until Wednesday (April 23), reports the Huffington Post. The trial was scheduled to start today, but a judge granted the delay in order to give both sides time to hash out issues over Brown's bodyguard, Chris Hollosy, taking the stand.
Hollosy was tried separately from Brown, and found guilty of assault Monday for his role in the fight. He is expected to testify that he punched alleged victim Parker Adams, not Brown.
"I don't think that there's any doubt Chris Brown is not guilty," attorney Mark Geragos told reporters.
During Hollosy's trial last week, Adams asserted that both men punched him outside a D.C. hotel last October. He claims he was attacked for jumping in a photo with Brown and female fans. Hollosy told police that he struck Adams for trying to get onto the singer's tour bus.
Hollosy was arrested for the altercation alongside Brown. Provided that prosecutors don't grant him immunity, testifying for the Grammy winner could affect his appeal, which may take up to a year. Geragos said that prosecutors have a "duty" to treat a defendant fairly and "extend immunity" depending on the situation. "It's going to be our argument that this is one of those situations," added Geragos.
Brown remains in a facility near D.C., where he was transferred to earlier in the month. He has been in police custody since mid-March, and based on a recently leaked mugshot, the stress of ongoing legal struggles may be taking a physical toll on the 24-year-old Virginia native.
If found guilty of misdemeanor assault in D.C., Brown's probation for beating Rihanna back in 2009 may be revoked. He will then face up to four years behind bars.
According to Geragos, Brown's trial will last only last for a couple of days.
