Shots were fired at New York City’s Irving Plaza on Wednesday night (May 25) ahead of T.I. scheduled performance at the venue. The NYPD confirmed that a 33-year-old man was pronounced dead at Beth Israel Hospital. Three others – including a 34-year-old man in critical condition and a 26-year-old woman in stable condition – were injured. A source later confirmed to XXL that rapper Troy Ave was the third injured person. He suffered a wound from a bullet graze to his leg.

According to an eyewitness for The New York Times, the shooting occurred after a backstage fight spilled onto the stage during a performance by Maino and Uncle Murda. A gunman opened fire in a VIP green room above the stage, where approximately 50 people were reportedly present. A New York Daily News eyewitness says the shooting occurred over a beef between Troy Ave and Maino’s crews.
“It was a fight over a push, it was over some b-------,” Wilkins said. “It was like 50 or 60 people in the VIP room. It was crazy. It’s crazy more people didn’t get shot.”

T.I. was not named among the injured, and never made it on stage for his performance. Though officials say they have security footage of the shooting, no arrests have been made. Reports indicate that security in the building was not up to par, though metal detectors were on the scene.
