Here's What Solange Knowles Really Thinks About 'Formation'
Solange Knowles dances, magnificently, to the beat of her own drum. And when she does it, she's wearing something fabulous, as should a woman who has wholly come into her own as an artist, mother and wife. In a recent interview with Vogue, the 29-year-old opened up about those very important roles and also had some sweet words to share about sister Beyoncé's defiant new single, "Formation."
Asked her thoughts about the track, Solo told the magazine, "I have always had tremendous respect for my sister as an artist, as a woman, and now as a mother. It’s been very interesting to see the impact that video and song have made globally, the connectivity that it had, and the power that it had. Honestly, I was just blown away as everyone else, because solidarity means so much, and there are so many different ways to communicate that. I think actually she has always communicated that."
On a separate note, Solange revealed that she's deep into finishing her new album, yet still makes time to scout for indie designers to work into her repertoire. And at the moment, she's currently smitten with Scandinavian label Rodebjer, which she discovered at Art Basel.
"I saw someone wearing one of the abstract art–printed pieces and asked them who made it. Then a friend of mine mentioned that I should meet Carin [the designer]. I went and looked at her clothing online, and I was completely blown away. Her aesthetic is feminine, it’s romantic, but it’s not about a girl dressing up for a man."
We like the sound of that! As for her current rules of dressing, she says it's all about "duality."
"I’m feeling for duality these days because I live in New Orleans, and when I’m there, my style is different than when I’m anywhere else. It definitely brings out your inner bohemian."
