The Trip to Bountiful Extends Broadway Run
The Trip to Bountiful has more to give.
The Broadway revival has extended its run by five weeks and remains on stage through October. Bountiful was nominated for four Tony Awards, including a win for Best Actress in a Play (Cicely Tyson) and nods for Best Featured Actress in a Play (Condola Rashad), Best Sound Design for a Play and Best Revival of a Play.
The production, which also stars Cuba Gooding, Jr. and Vanessa Williams, opened on April 23 and was already extended once beyond its original 14-week run.
"For years I have been searching for the perfect project to bring me back to my true home — the stage," said Tyson in a statement earlier this year. The play is her first engagement on Broadway in over thirty years. "In many ways Broadway is my Bountiful and I'm eager and honored to return with this strong, passionate, and funny character in a timeless American classic."
Tyson plays Carrie Watts, an elderly woman who dreams of returning to her small hometown of Bountiful, Texas one last time, against the wishes of her overprotective son (Gooding) and domineering daughter-in-law (Williams).
