Social Media Has a Field Day After Miami Heat Unveils New Dwyane Wade Statue
Dwyane Wade’s new statue is sparking comparisons across social media, with fans likening it to everything from Laurence Fishburne’s iconic Matrix character, ‘Morpheus,’ to video game villains.
Over the weekend, the Miami Heat unveiled this tribute to their championship star. Standing outside the Kaseya Center, the 8-foot-tall bronze sculpture captures Wade’s memorable “This is my house” celebration, immortalizing his clutch double-overtime, tie-breaking win over the Chicago Bulls on March 9, 2009.
While the 13-time All-Star seemed touched by the moment, even teasing, “Who is that guy?” upon seeing the statue, fans had mixed reactions to the artistic portrayal.
One critic on X remarked that Wade’s new statue “looks like a zombie Laurence Fishburne about to chomp on a human.” Another joked, “They got Dwyane Wade looking like that one Mortal Kombat level.”
Heat reporter Will Manso weighed in on X, saying, “For what it’s worth, finally getting up close to the Dwyane Wade statue, I have to say it looks much better than in pictures.”
Manso added, “I think the jawline is stronger, so it really changes the face when you’re not looking up at it too much.”
In a later press conference, Wade shared his own thoughts, expressing that, while he may be biased, the sculpture is “one of the best statues ever created.”
