No Surprises Here: Beyoncé’s Exclusive Tidal Stream of ’Lemonade’ Resulted in Some Serious Numbers
Can you believe it’s almost been a month since Beyoncé dropped her epic sixth album, Lemonade?
Now that we’ve had some time to digest its rich content and continue to be obsessed, streaming statistics have been compiled and what they reflect is nowhere near shocking.
Beyoncé, who released her visual album on April 23, made the project available exclusively through her husband Jay Z’s music streaming service, Tidal, (in which she is a partner) and the strategic move proved to be quite wise for the company.
According to data provided to the New York Times, Lemonade has resulted in 306 million global streams. As reported, about 75 percent of the streams (229 million) were from listeners in the United States, with the rest coming from 46 countries around the globe.
According to the report, Tidal also shared that it gained 1.2 million new users, including those taking advantage of the free trial offered to first-timers.
The new growth brings the company to about 4 million users, while its competition, Spotify ranks in at 30 million paying users and Apple Music is clocking in at 13 million.
While Tidal still isn’t a leader in the music streaming business, one can’t deny that these numbers are still as sweet as lemonade. Thank you, Bey.
