Pop Smoke’s Best Friend Addresses Inside Job Speculation On Instagram

“Can’t nothing express the pain I’m feeling…”

Amid conversations surrounding the untimely death of Brooklyn rapper Pop Smoke, his brotherly close friend Mike Dee has come forward to commemorate the 20-year-old and address heavily-circulated speculation.

  • Dee was in the presence of the rising rapper (born Bashar Barakah Jackson)  just hours before he was shot and killed in an alleged home invasion robbery on Wednesday (Feb. 19) in Hollywood Hills. In the wake of the devastating loss,  Smoke’s friend took to Instagram to pay respects.

  • In a touching tribute to the Meet The Woo 2 lyricist, Dee posted a string of photos showing him and Pop together from children all the way up until his recent musical fame. In the caption, he expressed the agony of losing his friend. “Can’t nothing express the pain I’m feeling,” Dee wrote. “I just lost my f**king brother, my heart, my [dawg.]“ He furthered his sentiments with a message to those who have spurred theories about an “inside job” behind Pop’s death.

“You guys have no type of sense or sympathy!” he continued. “Y’all don’t know what’s going on, y’all come on here playing investigator and bashing me on the internet, I would never in life set my brother up…” Dee went on to explain how close he was to the Brooklyn-bred rap star, even exclaiming that his own mother considered Pop as a son.

  • During the Wednesday morning news briefing, LAPD Capt. Steve Lurie told CBSLA that police officers responded to a 911 call where the caller claimed that a friend said the home was being broken into by multiple suspects and one of them was armed with a handgun. However, recent surveillance footage purportedly recovered might suggest that his murder wasn’t a robbery.

  • The homeowner of the property, Teddi Mellencamp of “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,” also posted a statement to her Instagram in response to the incident extending prayers and condolences to Pop Smoke’s family and loved ones.

  • Further details about the tragedy are still being investigated. No arrests have been made.
