Look: Walmart Discontinues 'Bulletproof' Black Lives Matter Sweatshirt After Criticism From Fraternal Order of Police
After a controversial back and forth between Walmart and the National Fraternal Order Police, a Black Lives Matter T-shirt will no longer be sold by the corporation, reported the New York Daily News.
On Tuesday, Walmart announced that will stop selling a shirt and hoodie that said “BULLETPROOF” with “Black Lives Matter” written under it. However, the company announced no plans to discontinue selling its other Black Lives Matter merchandise.
The National Fraternal Order of Police is the nation’s largest police group and has clashed with Black Lives Matter in the past.
Walmart received a letter from the National Fraternal Order of Police president Chuck Canterbury who called the apparel offensive.
“At a time of year when we as a nation and indeed, as a world, should be coming together in hopes of peace on Earth and goodwill toward men, these third party sellers are profiting from racial division,” Canterbury wrote. “Commercializing our differences will not help our local police and communities to build greater trust and respect for one another. Turning a buck on strained relationships will not contribute to the healing process.”
After releasing a statement saying that they would discontinue the shirt because of complaints from customers, Walmart removed the ability to purchase the shirt from the website.
After Walmart pulled the shirt, the story became widely spread on Twitter
And a debate about the importance of Black and Blue lives was set off
Walmart has not released any additional statements
