Diddy Makes Two $1M Contributions to HBCU Football Team and Financial Literacy Fund
Sean “Diddy” Combs just made good on a million-dollar promise.
This past weekend, the music mogul appeared at Georgia State's Center Parc Stadium for a football game between South Carolina State and Jackson State University — the latter of which received a considerable donation from the Harlem native.
Through his Sean Combs Foundation, Diddy dedicated $1 million to bolster Jackson State's football team.
The Bad Boy Records founder initially made the announcement during his Lifetime Achievement Award acceptance speech at the 2022 BET Awards. While talking to ESPN at the Friday game, Diddy, a graduate of Howard University, noted, “If it wasn’t for HBCUs, I wouldn’t be here.”
He added, “Supporting HBCUs is not just my honor, it’s my responsibility. You know, my grandmother raised me to make sure I sow my seed in my community, and that’s what I’m going to continue to do.”
Diddy spent the day sharing his wealth. Earlier that evening, he announced a $1 million investment fund in partnership with Earn Your Leisure (EYL) and its founders, Rashad Bilal and Troy Millings.
According to a press release, the funds will go toward financial literacy efforts that put “the investment strategies discussed on EYL into action" and offer “a practical model for economic empowerment.”
The industry veteran expressed how “thrilled” he was to be joining forces with EYL.
“We're going beyond discussing finances and taking action to demystify the world of investing for our community,” he said.
