STREAM EXCLUSIVE ORIGINALS

Sorry Jay Z, Looks Like Apple Music Wants to Let Tidal Circle the Drain

Kanye West even tried to help.

Even Kanye West tried his "Kanye best" to help rescue Jay Z’s streaming service, Tidal, before what is starting to feel like its inevitable demise.

Earlier this summer, the rapper took to Twitter to try to take matters into his own hands, and in the process, further ignited the rumors that Apple Music was in talks to acquire Tidal. He also voiced his opinion that the “Tidal-Apple beef is f***ing up the music game,” and tried to set up a meeting with key music executives in order to sort something out for the sake of “giving kids the music.”

However, Apple’s Jimmy Iovine has since come forward to confirm the news that the company is not interested in taking Tidal off of Jay Z’s hands.

In a recent interview, Jimmy Iovine stated the rumors were not true saying, “We’re really running our own race. We’re not looking to acquire any streaming services.”

While Tidal has been given the exclusives for some massive projects this year, such as the recent Usher album and records from West, Beyoncé and Rihanna, hosting the exclusive content might not be enough to save the streaming service. As reported, Tidal experienced a net loss of about $28 million last year.

While West has a point that the streaming wars are creating all sorts of problems (such as having fans wonder what will happen when Drake and ‘Ye finally collaborate), it appears as though, at this time, Apple Music has abandoned the idea of taking over Tidal and in the meantime, we’re all making this face
