Pharrell to Perform at Oscars

Skateboard P will sing "Happy" during Academy Awards ceremony.

Pharrell's Oscar story just got better.

The first-time nominee will perform his Oscar-nominated song "Happy" at the 86th Annual Academy Awards next month. Show producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron confirmed the news Tuesday (Feb. 4), the Associated Press reports.

"Happy" appears on the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack and earned P a nod in the Original Song category. He faces off against U2's "Ordinary Love" from Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, Karen O's "The Moon Song" from Her and Idina Menzel's "Let It Go" from the animated film Frozen.

A victorious Oscar showing could extend the Virginia native's winning streak coming off the four Grammys he took home in January.

Speaking to Hardknock TV recently, the 40-year-old singer/songwriter/producer opened up about about how music helped others understand his personality. "I've always been a little left of center, but I think music helped me and other people make sense of it," he said. "When you have these eccentric characteristics it's more accepted and understood when there's some sort of skill set to go along with it."

Fans can catch more of P when the Oscars air March 2.
