Woman Arrested On Charges Of Distributing Fentanyl Pill To Teen Girl Who Died
A teen girl reportedly died from taking a pill laced with fentanyl and died in class at her Colorado Springs high school. Now, the woman accused of distributing the drug to her is facing possible life in prison.
According to CBS Denver, Alexis Wilkins appeared in federal court in Denver on Wednesday (March 16). She allegedly distributed one fentanyl pill to two juvenile females in a mall parking lot on or around December 2. They reportedly thought they were buying oxycodone.
The two girls reportedly took the pill to school the next morning, where they shared it with a third girl, who overdosed and died in class at Mitchell High School.
Fentanyl is 200 times more potent than morphine. According to a criminal complaint, investigators say Facebook photos and messages show Wilkins’ extended involvement in dealing fentanyl. Her location data from the social media app helped them link Wilkins to the crime.
CBS Denver reports that Wilkins faces charges of distributing fentanyl resulting in death. If convicted she could face a potential penalty of no less than 20 years and up to life in prison, as well as a fine up to $1 million.
