UFC Fighter Kevin Holland Takes Down Houston Restaurant Gunman After Shooting Starts

No injuries were reported during the incident, but Holland and a friend were able to subdue the suspect until police arrived.

A gunman chose the wrong Houston restaurant to shoot up.

While people were dining at RA Sushi in the city’s Highland Park neighborhood, a gunman opened fire, causing a panic alarm to be triggered on Monday night (March 14). KPRC 2 reports that 40 to 50 people were inside, including UFC fighter Kevin Holland and friend Patrick Robinson, who sprung into action.

“Next thing you know, you just hear a ‘pop’ and then everybody started getting down,” Robinson told the news station. “Everybody started getting down. Next thing you know, me and my buddy, we ran to the shooter, got him down, strangled him, took the gun from him, and then called the police. Police came and got him.”

Police say a third customer assisted in holding down the suspect before they arrived.

Holland declined to speak to local media about the incident but posted a video of himself and Robinson outside of the restaurant on his Instagram story as police investigated.

“I laugh a lot even when things aren’t funny,” he wrote in his story. “I smile when I should frown. Super blessed and thankful to see today. Kiss ya kids, hug ya family and treat random people with care. You never know what a mfer may be going through.”

KPRC 2 reports that the suspect was a 24-year-old man who now faces charges of possessing a stolen gun and discharge of a firearm. He also had narcotics on him at the time of his arrest, police said.

Holland participated in UFC 272 on March 5, where he defeated Alex Oliveira by second-round TKO in his return to welterweight.
