Iggy Azalea Knows How to Play the Fashion Game
Iggy Azalea has been a bona fide style maven in our eyes for quite some time, but after Vogue named the Australian rapper one of the 10 Rising Style Stars of 2014, the rest of the world has been taking notice. In a recent interview with the New York Times, Azalea opened up about how she plays the fashion game so she gets just what she wants from designers, and how she positions herself to appeal to them.
"I know how to play the game and get what I want," she said. "Do you think what I wore to the Chloé show would really be something that I would wear? No. I picked the outfit out myself, because I know it's appropriate and I know how to pander. I know what Chloé looks like, and being that I want to appease Chloé, because I would like some Chloé, I'm going to do my best job to be Chloé."
And her strategy worked because Azalea found herself sitting at the front row during New York and Paris Fashion Weeks and mingling with A-listers at the Vanity Fair Oscars party. She knows that in order to nab those coveted clothes for her music videos, she needs to be seen as a fashion icon who will call attention to the designer's pieces. To help her "look like the girls the designers envisioned in their campaigns," Azalea brought on stylists Alejandra Hernandez and Jason Rembert, and while it's been a battle to get designers to want to dress the rapper, they're slowly starting to fall in love with her. Now she's got Chloé, Emilio Pucci, Roberto Cavalli and Elie Saab on her list.
But she's not just into playing the high-fashion game. Azalea also admitted to loving her boyfriend Nick Young's sweatpants. So much so that she's considering creating a women's line of lounge-wear with Hernandez.
"I'm not trying to make high-fashion clothing," she said. "I'd never do that."
