Taraji P. Henson Hilariously Spoofs Kendrick Lamar's 'Not Like Us' at the BET Awards 2024

The Academy Award-nominated actress returned to host for the third time.

The BET Awards 2024 kicked off with a comedic flair on Sunday evening (June 30) as Taraji P. Henson began her hosting duties with a spoof of Kendrick Lamar's hit "Not Like Us."

After a high-energy rock-and-roll performance by Megan Thee Stallion, who dazzled the audience with her hits "Hiss," "BOA," and "Where Them Girls At," Henson took the stage. She was dressed in a red hoodie and jeans, echoing Lamar's look from his recent "The Pop-Out: Ken and Friends" Juneteenth event.

The Hidden Figures star reworked the song’s hook to seemingly honor the annual celebration of Black excellence in Hollywood, changing the lyrics from "They Not Like Us" to "This About Us."

After performing her version, Henson emphasized that her reinterpretation of Kendrick's song was not meant to show loyalty but to promote unity. In a deadpan tone, she humorously told the audience, "No beef in here, can you say plant-based.”

The BET Awards 2024 event marked the veteran actress’s third time hosting the ceremony, a role she first took on in 2021. When asked why she continues to return as a host, the Golden Globe winner said, "Why not? I mean, it's culture's biggest night." She added, "It's fun. I was trained in theater, on the theater, but live theater is where I feel most comfortable and where I have the most fun."
