Best Movies To Watch On Father's Day

From horror to drama, these flicks honor dads.

Father's Day is a special occasion when we come together to honor and appreciate the incredible dads in our lives. It's a time to express gratitude for their love, support, and guidance. What better way to celebrate this important day than by gathering around the television for a heartwarming and memorable movie night?

Whether you're looking for a movie that captures the joys, challenges, or emotional depth of fatherhood, or even a horror film based on Frankenstein, we got you covered. Here are some movies to honor your dad or father figure.

  • The Pursuit of Happyness

In 2006, Will Smith starred as real-life businessman, investor, stockbroker and motivational speaker Chris Gardner. Opposite Will Smith is his son Jaden Smith, who plays Christopher Gardner Jr. On his journey toward success, Gardner faces obstacle after obstacle, but the bond between father and son remains.

  • Daddy's Little Girls

In 2007, Tyler Perry wrote and directed Daddy’s Little Girls. Starring Idris Elba, the film follows the story of a man who will do anything for the ladies in his life.

  • John Q

Any parent could relate to Denzel Washington’s desperation as a man fighting the corrupt healthcare system to save his son from a life-threatening illness. His character takes extreme measures to correct the system, culminating in a hostage situation in which Washington gives a moving speech to the cops during a heated stand-off: “I will not bury my son, my son will bury me.”

  • Hotel Rwanda

In 1994, Paul Rusesabagina managed a luxury hotel in the capital city Kigali when ethnic Hutus went on a rampage and slaughtered an estimated 800,000 ethnic Tutsis. He turned the hotel into a refuge for Tutsis and moderate Hutus, saving more than 1,200 lives. The story about family and survival was brought to life in the 2004 film Hotel Rwanda, with actor Don Cheadle, portraying Rusesabagina.

  • Red Hook Summer

One young man's relationship with his grandfather is taken to new heights throughout one summer in this Spike Lee joint from 2012.

  • The Angry Black Girl And Her Monster

The Angry Black Girl and Her Monster is a horror film written and directed by Bomani J. Story, but being a horror flick does not mean it isn't a good Father's Day film.

The movie is a re-imagination of Frankenstein with Laya DeLeon Hayes as Vicaria, the scientist. Chad Coleman plays her father who is proud champion for his daughter. Definitely a great film for grown kids and a dad who loves a scary movie.

The Angry Black Girl And Her Monster is in theaters now.
