Posthumous Documentary On Pop Smoke Being Developed, Manager Says
Two months after his tragic shooting death, a documentary for rapper Pop Smoke is reportedly currently in the works.
Pop Smoke’s manager, Steve Victor, announced the plans in an exclusive interview with Complex.
“I’m working really, really hard on this Pop Smoke album. And I’m working on a documentary for him, too. And his foundation,” Victor told the website. “I’m just really focused on making [the Victor Victor label] like the next Jimmy Iovine and Interscope.”
In a separate Complex interview with Pop Smoke that was conducted two weeks before his passing, the “Welcome to the Party” rapper, whose given name is Bashar Barakah Jackson, mentioned that he was working on a documentary or movie that would encompass how he and other drill rappers were being unfairly targeted by the police.
“I’m gonna put out a movie or a documentary. I’m gonna make that s**t about me,” the 20-year-old said at the time. “Walk ’em through where I used to live, where I used to be at, and why they look at me the way they look.
“I’m gonna show you why they don’t like that — what they don’t like,” he continued. “Let’s see if you have the same feedback that they have. Let’s see if you would want me to be banned and want me to not perform. I doubt you will. All this good music being recorded, and you want to put it on hold? You don’t want people to hear it?”
This latest update comes after New York rap icon 50 Cent revealed that he was going to executive produce and posthumously release Pop Smoke’s final album that he was working on before he was fatally shot in February.
