Mac Miller Leaves Rostrum Records

Rapper announces departure from his label home.

After four years of a record-breaking run with Rostrum Records, Mac Miller has opted to bow out of his formal agreement with the independent label, he announced to MTV Tuesday (Jan. 14).

However, "Rostrum is my family. That is forever," he assured in a joint statement with label head Benjy Grinberg. "No matter what, we will always work together. We moved mountains and I can only see them continuing that tradition. I am grateful for everything I learned and am always here for whatever."

Confirming that there wasn't ever legal strife to sully their relationship, Miller said he simply let their contract expiration date pass without resigning.

Grinberg agrees that there's no hard feelings. "Mac is an incredible artist and has a bright career ahead of him," he said.

Rostrum, also the label home of Wiz Khalifa, picked up Miller in 2010 when he was working on his breakout mixtape K.I.D.S. (Kickin' Incredibly Dope S--t). In 2011, his debut album, Blue Park Slide, became the first independent album to top the Billboard 200 since Tha Dogg Pound's 1995 debut Dogg Food. He's since sold 5.4 million singles and more than 750,000 albums with the team, and even earned an MTV show, Mac Miller & The Most Dope Family

"We are proud of the historic run that we had together and we will continue to support him in any way that is needed," Grinberg continued. "We wish him nothing but the best in the future."
