From CEOs to actors, politicians and athletes, the current media landscape is flooded with images of African American men that cross all segments of society. But unfortunately, far too often, the image that seems to resonate is one composed of violent stereotypes that don't reflect the diversity of the African American male.

In an effort to provide a positive forum to uncover remedies to this growing issue, BET Networks has partnered with Morehouse College for “Reclaim: Changing the Narrative of the Black Man in Media,” a H.I.S. BET Town Hall sponsored by the U.S. Army, on Friday, September 19 at Morehouse College in Atlanta. The town hall supports the new H.I.S. BET initiative, which focuses on supporting the health, diversity and achievement of Black men.
“We created H.I.S. BET to expand our commitment to promoting positive images of men of color. Recent events have confirmed what we already knew; the public perception of African-American men is seriously damaged. Together as a community we can do something about that. Friday’s H.I.S. BET Town Hall is a forum to further the discussion through honest dialogue and with young men who will set the tone for the future,” said Louis Carr, BET Networks president of broadcast media sales.
Esteemed journalist, author and activist Marc Lamont Hill will moderate the discussion with the following panelists: Hosea Chanchez (BET’s The Game), David Wall Rice, Dr. Bryant Marks, Alonzo Mourning, Chaka Zulu, Dr. Raphael Warnock, and David Banner.

“Reclaim: Changing the Narrative of the Black Man in Media,” will take place at Ray Charles Performing Arts Center at 3 p.m. with a 2 p.m. pre-event warm-up in the quad with Morehouse alum DJ D Hen. Immediately following the panel, journalist and motivational speaker Jeff Johnson will moderate the audience discussion.
