Yasiin Bey Shouts Out Drake With 'Basquiat Ghostwriter'
To commemorate Black August and the birthday of Black nationalist Marcus Garvey this week, Yasiin Bey, one half of Black Star, released a must-see video.
"Good tidings in this season of the lion," he wrote when he debuted "Basquiat Ghostwriter" online at A Country Called Earth. He then goes on to shout out Bobby Shmurda, Drake and Kendrick Lamar, the latter of whom he recently co-signed when he added a fresh hook to "Alright."
"The local time is always now," he wrote. "Free Shmurda. If you are reading this, you are already reading. Weappreciateyuh... Negus. Eternal pedigree. Noble Empire. So real. Surreal."
The less than three-minute video is especially pupil pleasing, since it uses Jean-Michel Basquiat as the visual ghostwriter. Bey's lyrics and the instrumental track are just as staccato as his message.
See it below, and nod your head in understanding, if you love hip hop.
